Kane thanks recovering Kompany during Ballon d'Or acceptance

In the sparkling ballroom of Munich, where the Ballon d'Or was presented on Monday evening, the 32‑year‑old striker Harry Kane stood on the stage. While the cameras flashed, he directed his thank‑you speech to coach Vincent Kompany, who recently recovered from a sudden illness.
Kompany recovers, will miss the coming weeks
Earlier this week Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany fell ill during a training session. Although he has now recovered, the club reports that he will not be available for the Bayern squad in the coming weeks.
During his speech, Kane spoke candidly about the recovering Belgian. “To Vinnie: I know you’re at home, or still in the hospital. I wish you all the best and hope this award gives you a bit of energy,” he said, after which he emphasized that since Kompany became his coach, he has grown as a player, a person and a leader.

Kane also praised the entire staff, who in his view have propelled his development to great heights. “The way we train, the way you motivate us, that really deserves a compliment,” he declared.
He also recalled the previous season, in which he recorded 64 goals and 8 assists in 56 matches, a performance he attributes to the intensive training under Kompany.
