Karetsas shines after comeback at BVB in Nations League debut
BVB star Konstantinos Karetsas started on Thursday, September 24, for the Greek national team in the first Nations League group match against Serbia. The 18‑year‑old immediately posed a threat, hit the post in the 5th minute and remained an important attacker until halftime, bringing hope for the team.
Last weekend Konstantinos Karetsas returned to BVB after his collapse in the Champions League match against FC Villarreal. The substitution against VfB Stuttgart, which was photographed by Imago, was his first game since that incident. Against the Swabians, the 18‑year‑old Greek enlivened the action noticeably.
Successful Nations League appearance
On Thursday, September 24, Greece had the Nations League group match against Serbia, and BVB star Konstantinos Karetsas immediately started on the pitch. After an early concession, he already in the fifth minute sent a shot against the post, narrowly missing the equaliser.
Eight minutes later he struck from outside the penalty area and forced the Serbian keeper into a spectacular save. His dribbling repeatedly launched dangerous attacks and gave the Serbian defenders a headache.
In the 73rd minute Greece equalised, and just a minute later Karetsas was substituted. In stoppage time the national team scored the winning goal, but the new signing of the Black‑Yellows was no longer on the field.
Looking ahead
The player and Borussia Dortmund are equally pleased with the convincing performance. Although Karetsas has not yet broken through in the Ruhr area in his first competitive matches for BVB, appearances like this in the Nations League show that he can regain confidence.
As a new signing of Borussia Dortmund, Karetsas has already shown in a few appearances that he can initiate dangerous offensive actions. He hopes that the accumulated experience will help him further establish himself at BVB.
With strengthened form and confidence, he is expected to return to Dortmund after the international duty and continue working on his development there.
