Lineker brands Germany weak as Havertz dismisses the critique

🇩🇪

Germany's two wins and one defeat have secured a place in the Euro 2024 round of 32, confirming their progression despite a mixed group performance. The DFB side now faces Paraguay on Monday evening at 10:30 p.m. German time, with a win promising a round‑of‑16 clash.

Germany entered the tournament with a record of two victories and one loss, a tally that propelled them into the last‑16 stage. The results reflected a balance of attacking potency and defensive lapses.

Paraguay await Germany on Monday evening, with kickoff scheduled for 10:30 p.m. German time. A positive result would set up a potential round‑of‑16 encounter with France.

L’Equipe asked former England striker Gary Lineker to assess the German side, and he replied, “I think — and I could be wrong — that this is one of the weakest German national teams I’ve ever seen. France should have no trouble qualifying for the quarter‑finals.”

At the press conference before the Paraguay game, Arsenal forward Kai Havertz was asked about Lineker’s criticism. Havertz answered, “I think we already have plenty of experts in our own country,” adding that listening to foreign experts “at some point it’s enough” and that “generally speaking, I really don’t care at all.”

Havertz also noted his close contact with teammates Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz, saying the three are working on improving their coordination. He expressed confidence that the attack will click against Paraguay and that the team can make a fresh start.
