Lisandro Martínez offers United an apology after Instagram message
Lisandro Martínez, Manchester United's Argentine defender, posted an apology on Instagram on Thursday after he had publicly criticized the club's leadership following the 2‑0 defeat to Atlético Madrid in the Champions League.
Criticism after Champions‑League loss
After the defeat in Madrid, Martínez felt that the club's leadership should have done more to strengthen the playing squad. He named sporting director Jason Wilcox by name and accused the management of a lacking transfer policy.
His comments caused unrest within United, and on Wednesday he let it be known on social media that he had expressed his frustration, but an apology was still missing.
Conversation with Carrick and official apology
After a meeting with the officials and coach Michael Carrick, Martínez offered his apology. In the Instagram post he confirmed that he had sat at the table together with Carrick and the club's leadership and that the discussion had gone positively.

He emphasized that he experiences football intensely and that the disappointment after the defeat had swept him up, but that the timing and venue of his earlier remarks may have been poorly chosen.
“For that, I want to offer my apologies,” Martínez wrote. He acknowledged that his earlier words had not contributed to unity within Manchester United and shifted the focus to cooperation and calm within the club.
Martínez concluded that United is strongest when everyone moves in the same direction and he expressed confidence in the daily efforts of the staff to achieve sporting success.
