Liverpool's hunt for Barcola: filling Salah's void with a €120m gamble

🇬🇧
Liverpool face a clear void in attack after Mohamed Salah’s departure, prompting a push for a new forward who can deliver pace and technical skill. The club have turned their focus to 23‑year‑old French winger Bradley Barcola, whose €120 million price tag is now being discussed as the transfer window draws to a close. Barcola fits the profile Liverpool have pursued in recent years, combining elite speed with room for development. Under the guidance of Andoni Iraola, whose tactics demand intensity and pressing, the winger could thrive at Anfield. At Paris Saint‑Germain, Barcola has grown frustrated with limited playing time under Luis Enrique. Sporting adviser Luis Campos also expressed a desire to retain the winger at the club. His reduced involvement in the Champions League knockout stages has reinforced his desire for regular first‑team football. Recent talks between Liverpool and Barcola’s representatives have reportedly yielded encouragement that the 23‑year‑old is preparing to leave the Parc des Princes before the window shuts. Graeme Bailey noted that the club have spoken again with the player’s camp in recent days. Paris Saint‑Germain value Barcola at around €120 million, mirroring the fee they expect for Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig. Liverpool have not been discouraged by the valuation, especially as a potential €200 million double move involving Diomande and Maghnes Akliouche could facilitate the winger’s exit. Arsenal are also monitoring Barcola closely, while Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have all shown varying levels of interest. Reports suggest Liverpool and Arsenal currently display the strongest intent to secure the French international’s signature. Liverpool’s recruitment department continues to keep alternative options on the radar, including Yankuba Minteh, Said El Mala, Christian Pulisic, Bazoumana Traore and Matias Fernandez Pardo. This diversified approach aims to avoid reliance on a single transfer. With the transfer deadline approaching, Iraola’s side will need to finalize any agreement to integrate Barcola into their pressing system. Securing the winger would address the immediate gap left by Salah and shape the club’s attacking outlook for the coming season.
