Luis Enrique warns PSG of a Manchester City comeback after 4-2 win
Two days after Paris Saint‑Germain's (4-2) Champions League triumph at Manchester City, Spanish coach Luis Enrique warned of the opponent's potential comeback, emphasizing the need to maintain control throughout the match.
First half widely praised
The first half of the match drew plenty of praise for PSG, who led 3-0 at the break. Luis Enrique acknowledged his team's luck, saying “We were lucky in this match” at Friday's press conference.
He nevertheless noted that the second half was less satisfactory, reminding that the Citizens, heavily trailing, naturally looked for solutions and took risks to get back into the game.
Demand for consistency and control
“If you want to win an away game of this level, you need to be more consistent throughout the match. Otherwise, they can pull off a comeback and score more goals than you,” Luis Enrique explained, stressing the need to control the game during the final 45 minutes.
He added that PSG needed to better exploit the spaces created by the opponent's risks, stating “Often the opponent takes a lot of risks, we have to be fresher to take advantage.” The coach lamented the goals conceded and expected better control of Parisian attacks.
The coach also praised a “magnificent piece of play” from PSG, highlighting the players' ability to stay aggressive and brave, even away, for three years now. According to him, the team should never be afraid, but also avoid a “crazy” second half where the gap widens.
Ousmane Dembélé admitted after the match that PSG had relaxed, which “paid off cash” against City. Luis Enrique shares this observation and wants PSG’s authority to last at least forty‑five minutes, even when the score already looks difficult.
