Manchester City face points deduction as Van Gaal demands justice
While Manchester City finds itself in a delicate situation, accused of breaching more than 100 rules of the financial fair play regulations, former Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal points the Citizens as the cause of his own dismissal. The English club faces a colossal points deduction, while Liverpool supporters are demanding justice.
Van Gaal's accusations
In an interview with The Athletic, Van Gaal explains that, without Manchester City's infractions, United would have qualified for the Champions League in 2016, which could have saved his job. “For me, at the time, not securing Champions League qualification in 2016 was probably the decisive factor in my dismissal,” he said.
He adds that, even if the titles won by the Mancunians could be reassigned, he will never get his job back: “I can’t turn back time.” The former Dutch manager still expects heavy sanctions against the Sky Blues.
For several weeks now, the debate has raged in England, with Liverpool supporters joining the criticism, believing that the ten‑time English champion must pay for its transgressions. The discussions multiply, fueled by the feeling that the Citizens have benefited from an illegal advantage.
The threat of a points deduction could reshape the Premier League table, affecting not only Manchester City but also rivals such as United. The financial fair play authorities remain under pressure to deliver a final decision.
