Olympiakos awaits the new role for Timothy Weah envisaged by Genesio
After three weeks of international break, Olympique de Marseille resumed winning this Sunday by beating Troyes 0-2 on the sixth matchday of Ligue 1. The success was accompanied by a first start for professional Kelyann Bezahaf, who shone at right‑back in the absence of the young American international Timothy Weah, suspended.
Victory at Troyes and first start
The match was marked by Bezahaf’s convincing performance, who occupied the right flank with confidence. His involvement allowed OM to maintain defensive solidity while supporting the attack, thus contributing to the two goals that sealed the victory.
Timothy Weah’s repositioning project
According to RMC Sport, Bruno Genesio and his staff are considering moving Timothy Weah up a notch, to the right attacking midfield position, in order to better exploit his speed and shooting power. This idea is fueled by Bezahaf’s performance and the possibility of using Ulisses Garcia as the new right‑back.
The American international, who has had a difficult start to the season and sometimes feels limited by his defensive duties, is said to have expressed his agreement to this change. He had already been tested in this position during a friendly against Montpellier, lost 0‑1 during the break.
Tactical consequences and upcoming challenges
Moving Weah could free Amine Harit, currently on the right side, to take on the number 10 role, where Angel Gomes struggles to convince. The staff could thus adjust the starting eleven before hosting Olympiakos in the Europa League, scheduled for this Thursday at 21 h.
Two major absences on the Greek side, Yusuf Yazıcı and Ayoub El Kaabi, give OM an additional opportunity to reshape its attack. It remains to be seen whether Genesio will implement his new system immediately or wait for other matches to confirm the change.
