Tenerife striker dies after collision with Andorra goalkeeper

The Spanish striker Jesus De Miguel of second‑division side CD Tenerife died on the pitch in a tragic incident immediately after a hard collision with the opposing keeper Jesús Owono, following a foul in stoppage time of the match against FC Andorra.

Collision and Immediate Measures

The club CD Tenerife announced on Tuesday morning the death of the 30‑year‑old striker. The collision occurred in stoppage time of the match against FC Andorra, when De Miguel collided in a sprint duel with the opposing goalkeeper Jesús Owono. The keeper collided in the jump with De Miguel's upper body, causing the striker to lose consciousness.

En route to the hospital, emergency crews had to revive the player. The players of both teams were shaken by the sight, and the Andorra keeper Owono immediately received a red card for the hard action. The referee ended the match with a score of 2 : 2.

After the match on Monday evening, CD Tenerife initially stated that De Miguel's condition was serious but stable. On Tuesday morning, however, it was reported that his neurological condition had deteriorated. About four hours later the club confirmed the player's death.

De Miguel died at 8 a.m. in the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. The statement read: “Full of grief, with a lump in the throat and unable to believe that this can be true.” The club asked for the utmost respect for the privacy of the bereaved and thanked those who expressed condolences.

FC Andorra also expressed its sympathy and wrote: “With a broken heart and deeply shaken, we extend our sincere condolences to the family of Jesús de Miguel. Rest in peace.” The topic was covered in the sportschau.de broadcast on 03.11.2026.
