Timo Letschert slams Koeman, praises van Basten’s daring
Former Dutch defender Timo Letschert gave Ronald Koeman a “dikke onvoldoende” for his spell as Netherlands head coach, saying he preferred the boldness of the Marco van Basten era. He made the comment on Studio Oranje, comparing the two periods and rating Koeman low among this century’s national team managers.
Letschert said Marco van Basten played with courage and that he enjoyed watching that style. He added that he prefers that type of football.
He awarded Koeman a “dikke onvoldoende” and said he does not rank him highly among this century’s Dutch national coaches. The criticism was delivered during the Studio Oranje broadcast.
Tablemate Kaj Ramsteijn offered a more nuanced view, noting that Koeman does come under the likes of Bert van Marwijk and Louis van Gaal. Ramsteijn placed Koeman in the same discussion as those former coaches.
The Studio Oranje episode also covered Koeman’s departure, possible successors, and discussed the best France ever. Viewers could watch the debate live on Studio Oranje.
The segment was broadcast today at 15:12, providing a timely platform for the discussion.
