Torino eye World Cup hero Orlando Gill as Serie A target

🇮🇹

Paraguayan goalkeeper Orlando Gill is being linked with a move to Serie A side Torino after his standout performances at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, where his heroics earned him Player of the Match honours and attracted interest from the Italian club.

In the Round of 32, Gill denied Germany twice in the shootout, saving penalties from Nick Woltemade and another German, to seal a 4‑3 victory – the first time Paraguay have ever beaten the Germans. The performance earned him Player of the Match and was captured in a photo by Megan Briggs.

Paraguay’s cup run ended a day later with a narrow 1‑0 loss to France in the last‑16, ending Gill’s tournament on a defeat. The 27‑year‑old is a San Lorenzo player, having risen to prominence only after the World Cup.

When Sky asked about Italian interest, Gill replied, “Why not? They’re one of the biggest clubs in this country,” referring to Torino. He added that the club would analyse the offer before deciding.

Gill said he will first take a period of rest before considering any move, noting “whatever God wills, let it happen.” He acknowledged that his composure under pressure has sharpened the interest of clubs such as Torino.

For Gill, a Serie A switch would provide a platform to test himself after a well‑earned break. For Torino, securing a World Cup‑proven goalkeeper could bolster their squad, though no concrete offer has been confirmed. Torino’s pursuit reflects their ambition to improve the defensive line ahead of next season.
