Vincent Kompany stable but hospitalized, Bayern imposes rest

Two days after his illness, Bayern Munich announced that its coach Vincent Kompany is stable, without headaches, and that he will remain in the hospital for a few days, according to information released Sunday evening. The first positive signs came after the club's victory in Fribourg. According to Simon Hamoir, a foreign football specialist, the news is encouraging.

This Sunday, Bayern recorded its first win without Kompany, beating Fribourg 3-1 away. On Saturday, the coach was present, albeit diminished, during the 6-1 triumph over Leipzig, and on Wednesday he followed the 2-2 draw with Arsenal. His absence this Sunday was therefore felt.

Vince's message and Aaron Danks' reaction

« I just opened my phone and got a WhatsApp message from Vince that said: ‘Well done’, and he was happy », said his assistant Aaron Danks. « So I just replied: ‘Great, rest now’ and I sent him a kiss emoji », he added. The message shows that Kompany is following the matches from his room.

Rest instructions and staff visit

Bayern is already moving on with its second round of the German Cup on Wednesday against Magdeburg. The staff and some players plan to visit Kompany in the coming days, but the club has asked visitors not to talk about football in order to disconnect him from stress. This instruction aims to promote complete rest.

Max Eberl's statements on the stable condition

Sporting director Max Eberl stated that the coach is “on the road to recovery, stable, without headaches” and that the examinations carried out this weekend went well. He promised to limit football conversations with Vince, simply giving him time to recover, be with his family and regain fitness. The newspaper La Libre relayed these statements.

However, additional examinations were carried out throughout the weekend and the final diagnosis has yet to be communicated. Kompany will have to remain in the hospital for a few more days before returning home, where he will be medically monitored. The club indicated that it will not speak of timelines in days, but in weeks. The Sports section has closely followed the evolution of the diagnosis.

Behind the scenes, a glaring lack of sleep, excessive coffee consumption, an unbalanced diet and an overwhelming workload were also mentioned as aggravating factors. These elements were cited to explain the fatigue that led to the illness.

Max Eberl recalled last week's lesson, when he had let Kompany resume his role while he was not fully recovered. During the traditional pre‑match press conference, Bayern reiterated the information about the coach's health status, thus reassuring the public and the media.
