Aston Villa Poised to Sign Matias Soule from Roma

Aston Villa have a clear route to sign 23‑year‑old Matias Soule from AS Roma, according to a Sport Witness report. The Italian club must generate roughly €80 million in capital gains before 30 June to satisfy UEFA’s financial regulators. A photo by Francesco Pecoraro captures Soule during the SSC Napoli versus AS Roma match on 15 February 2026. Soule recorded six goals and five assists in 29 Serie A matches this season, and he is listed for sale. Roma are asking between €35 million and €40 million, a price that would produce a €23 million capital gain for the club. Italian outlets suggest the proceeds will also fund a €50 million move for Marseille’s Mason Greenwood. Aston Villa can meet the fee, having received around €25 million from the permanent transfer of Donyell Malen. Unai Emery holds the leverage to submit a firm £30 million bid, which sits below the asking price but should be attractive to a panicked Roma board. Borussia Dortmund are also monitoring Soule, and waiting until the final week of June would risk losing the player to the German side. Emery must act now rather than continue testing the waters. Soule created 1.9 chances per 90 minutes last season, placing him among the top tier of European attackers, and his quick ball progression matches Aston Villa’s tactical needs. He has expressed a desire to move to Birmingham and has told his agents he wants the transfer. Manchester United are tracking Morgan Rogers as a long‑term replacement for Bruno Fernandes, leaving Villa without depth for the Champions League if Rogers departs. Signing Soule would provide immediate reinforcement for that position.
