Doku's infection clouds Belgium start vs New Zealand

Jeremy Doku returned to the Belgium national team yesterday evening after attending the birth of his son Praise, but a lingering respiratory infection and a delayed flight mean his participation against New Zealand remains uncertain. Medical staff have started him on antibiotics and cortisone, and he only resumed light training today. Doku's aircraft arrived three hours later than scheduled, and he was accompanied throughout by doctor Brecht De Coninck. De Coninck also had to rush to London to find a gift for the newborn. The respiratory infection continues to raise concerns, yet Doku managed a light training session today. He described his mood as being on a "pink cloud" as the New Zealand match approaches. Treatment with antibiotics and a cortisone course has shown a positive response. Nonetheless, his condition after training and the jet‑lag from multiple flights to London remain uncertain. Coaching staff are cautious; they expect Doku will not start the New Zealand game but could be introduced in the second half. Their aim is to have him available for the decisive group‑stage match. Defender Zeno Debast will undergo an MRI tomorrow; if the results are positive, he will receive clearance to train fully and could be fit for the next round.
