Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea chase £100m Morgan Rogers

Manchester City, guided by director Hugo Viana, have entered direct talks to meet Aston Villa’s £100 million asking price for England forward Morgan Rogers, with Arsenal and Chelsea also vying for the 23‑year‑old. Rogers, who logged 14 goals and 12 assists in 50 games last season, is under contract until 2031. Aston Villa insist the fee for Rogers must exceed £100 million, aiming to surpass the £100 million they received from Manchester City for Jack Grealish in 2021. The club also benefits from a clause that would allocate up to 20 percent of any future sale to Middlesbrough. Unai Emery, Aston Villa’s manager, has highlighted Rogers as a cornerstone of the side that secured the UEFA Europa League title last season. Rogers contributed 14 goals and 12 assists across 50 appearances in all competitions. Arsenal are reported to have made the strongest impression on Rogers, with manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta outlining how the attacker would fit at the Emirates Stadium. Their vision has resonated with the player’s camp, according to journalist Graeme Bailey. Chelsea’s interest is reinforced by co‑director of recruitment Joe Shields, who oversaw Rogers’ move to City during his tenure as academy director at the Etihad Stadium. This existing relationship has ensured a direct line of communication with the Stamford Bridge hierarchy. Manchester City’s pursuit, driven by director Hugo Viana, aligns with the club’s target of signing a versatile left‑side or central attacker. The City project coincides with the imminent appointment of Enzo Maresca as manager and a concurrent £record bid for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson. City are also monitoring Savinho, who hopes to join Tottenham, as part of their broader winger recruitment. Rogers, who spent part of his youth at the Etihad Stadium without making a senior appearance, is contracted with Villa until 2031, giving the club commercial leverage. The summer window now faces a decisive few weeks as the three Premier League heavyweights intensify their negotiations.
