Manchester City could earn £4‑7m from Alvarez sell‑on clause
Manchester City could receive a £4‑7 million bonus if Julian Alvarez moves from Atletico Madrid to Real Madrid, thanks to a sell‑on clause.
Julian Alvarez left Manchester City for Atletico Madrid in 2024 after a two‑year spell that produced six major trophies, including a historic treble. He departed the Etihad Stadium after two years under Pep Guardiola. Despite his contributions, Alvarez remained in the shadows of Erling Haaland.
The deal included a 10 percent sell‑on clause on any profit Atletico Madrid makes from a future sale, which would trigger the £4‑7 million payment if the transfer is valued around £130 million.
Real Madrid have made an approach for Alvarez, but Atletico Madrid have rejected it, holding out for a fee near the striker’s £430 million release clause; Transfermarkt values him at roughly £86 million.
The prospective windfall arrives as Manchester City prepare for a transition after Pep Guardiola’s departure, with Enzo Maresca expected to take charge next season.
