Marc Cucurella joins Real Madrid for £51.8m

Marc Cucurella's £51.8m transfer to Real Madrid has been officially confirmed. The 27-year-old left-back had joined Chelsea for £63m from Brighton in 2022. Cucurella was keen to return to Spain after coming through Barcelona's academy. He had been linked with Atletico Madrid or a move back to Catalonia. At Chelsea he became a key figure under Enzo Maresca. He criticised the club hierarchy after Maresca's mid-season departure. Under successor Liam Rosenior, Cucurella and other Spanish-speaking players struggled. The situation leaves Jorrel Hato as the only natural senior left-back in Xabi Alonso's Real Madrid squad.
