Marcus Rashford Leaves Barcelona After Club Declines Purchase Option

Marcus Rashford has removed Barcelona from his Instagram bio, indicating his departure is imminent. Barcelona decided not to trigger the €30 million purchase option agreed last summer, a decision made after signing Anthony Gordon. Rashford spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Barcelona, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists in all competitions. The English forward arrived from Manchester United and had publicly expressed a desire to remain with the Blaugrana shirt. The club’s refusal to activate the option is linked to squad planning following Anthony Gordon’s arrival from Newcastle United. Gordon’s signing reduced the need for an additional wide forward with a significant transfer fee and salary commitment. While Rashford delivered goals, assists and experience, he was not always the best stylistic fit for Barcelona. His defensive contributions were deemed insufficient and he could not match the intensity that Raphinha brought. Rashford’s final goal for Barcelona was a free‑kick against Real Madrid that secured the La Liga title for Flick’s men. The strike highlighted his impact despite the club’s decision to move on. Rashford will return to Manchester United to assess his next step. Barcelona will redirect the €30 million budget to other areas needing reinforcement.
