Michael Edwards pushes Liverpool's youth recruitment drive

Michael Edwards is closing in on two England U15 internationals, Zack Trinder from Wolves and Josh Chigwada from Everton. Both are described as the best in their age group in England. Since returning as FSG’s Head of Football Operations, Edwards has overseen significant spending last summer. Early results have fallen short of supporter expectations, but many signings are young, highly regarded talents. The recruitment strategy now taps markets previously ignored, expanding Liverpool’s global scouting network. It has already produced arrivals of Armin Pecsi, Ifeanyi Ndukwe, Mor Talla Ndiaye, Sidy Barhama Ndiaye, Samuel Martinez, Xavier Parker, and Will Wright. When Edwards returned, there was an expectation he would drive a multi‑club ownership model similar to Chelsea and Manchester City. That project has lost momentum and is no longer a prominent discussion point. Edwards’ current contract runs until 2027, and neither Liverpool nor FSG have spoken about extending it beyond that date. Despite the uncertainty, Edwards remains focused on strengthening and developing the squad. Manager Andoni Iraola will soon have a collection of young prospects. Senior coach Richard Hughes continues to focus on short‑term first‑team strengthening. Peter O'Rourke reported that Trinder and Chigwada are England U15 internationals and are regarded as the best in their age group nationally. Their double transfer would be a significant addition to Liverpool’s academy. Edwards aims to identify elite young players early, sign them quickly, and bring them to Anfield before their market value rises. The pipeline of talent could sustain Liverpool’s success for years.
