Real Madrid contact Nico Schlotterbeck as Mourinho pushes

Real Madrid have made contact with Nico Schlotterbeck's representatives as they evaluate defensive options for the upcoming season. Jose Mourinho is reported to be a keen admirer of the Germany international. The club face a defensive overhaul with David Alaba set to leave on a free transfer and Eder Militao still battling injuries. Antonio Rudiger may have secured a new deal but is described as not the defender he once was, while Dean Huijsen has failed to meet expectations after a costly summer move. Ibrahima Konate has already joined Real Madrid, underscoring the need for additional centre-back depth. The 26-year-old centre-back recorded 63 % success in aerial duels and 61 % in ground duels in the Bundesliga last term, contributing to 11 clean sheets in 28 appearances. He also scored five goals and is praised as one of Europe’s best ball-playing centre-halves. Schlotterbeck signed a new long-term contract with Borussia Dortmund in April, extending his stay at Signal Iduna Park until 2031. The deal includes an exit clause estimated at €50‑60 million, which had previously drawn criticism from Dortmund fans. Despite the speculation, Schlotterbeck says he is not allowing transfer talk to distract him as Germany prepare to begin their World Cup campaign. Real Madrid’s interest, however, will keep his future under close scrutiny.
