Romano: Liverpool’s Barcola chase lifts as PSG talks stall

🇬🇧 yesterday
Liverpool's chase for French winger Bradley Barcola has received a significant lift after Fabrizio Romano reported that contract negotiations between Barcola and Paris Saint‑Germain have stalled. Barcola, who has two years remaining on his PSG deal, also appears on Arsenal's shortlist, keeping his summer future "absolutely open". Romano explained on his YouTube channel that Bradley Barcola is definitely on Arsenal’s shortlist and simultaneously listed by Liverpool as a target. He noted that Liverpool have been monitoring Barcola’s situation since he featured on their shortlist in 2025 and remains on it for 2026. Romano further clarified that talks between PSG and Barcola over a new contract are completely on standby, with no progress on either side. Consequently, the player’s immediate future is described as “absolutely open”, according to Romano’s information. Earlier speculation claimed Liverpool’s large offer for Yan Diomande might have ended their interest in Barcola. However, Romano’s latest update suggests Liverpool could still pursue both Diomande and Barcola, rather than treating the options as mutually exclusive. Liverpool’s recruitment strategy this summer has emphasized flexibility, aiming to reinforce several squad areas while preserving depth across competitions. Barcola’s speed, directness and ability to operate on multiple attacking positions align with the club’s desire for versatile offensive options. With two years left on his PSG contract, the French champions are not under immediate pressure to sell Barcola. The stalled negotiations, however, create a window that Liverpool supporters have learned to exploit when conditions are favorable. Romano’s update therefore gives Liverpool genuine encouragement as they monitor the evolving situation. With the player’s status described as “absolutely open”, the club has every reason to stay attentive throughout the summer window.
