Wrexham target Sunderland keeper Anthony Patterson this summer

Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson has been linked with Welsh club Wrexham after journalist Alan Nixon reported the interest on his Patreon platform. Patterson’s contract with Sunderland runs until the summer of 2028, meaning the Black Cats are not under immediate pressure to sell.

During the previous season, Patterson spent a loan spell at Millwall in the EFL Championship, making 16 appearances for the English side. In those games he conceded 14 goals and kept seven clean sheets across the various competitions.

The 26‑year‑old stands 1.89 m tall, giving him a commanding presence in goal. He is regarded as one of the most talented English keepers of his generation.

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris has listed Patterson as surplus to requirements at the Wearside club. If he remains beyond the summer, he is likely to struggle for regular first‑team minutes under Le Bris.

Patterson’s market value is expected to increase as he enters his peak years. Consequently, the Black Cats could generate funds by selling him and reinvest in a suitable replacement this window.

A photograph by Charlotte Tattersall shows Patterson reacting during a Sky Bet Championship match between Preston North End and Millwall at Deepdale Stadium on 28 February 2026 in Preston, England. The image captures the English goalkeeper’s involvement in the league fixture.

Wrexham, based in Wales, are reportedly planning to sign the goalkeeper from the Black Cats in this transfer window. Given his surplus status and contract length, Le Bris should consider allowing Patterson to leave before the window closes.
