Al-Ahli chase Khephren Thuram, Liverpool keep Curtis Jones

Liverpool face a summer dilemma as Al-Ahli move for Juventus midfielder Khephren Thuram intensifies pressure to retain English midfielder Curtis Jones, who has been sidelined by manager Andoni Iraola despite interest from Inter Milan and other European Premier League clubs. Arne Slot has already been moved on after Liverpool failed to retain the top‑flight title in the 2025‑26 season. Andoni Iraola, who took charge only weeks ago, has already consulted with Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards about the squad’s summer requirements. Curtis Jones was called up to Thomas Tuchel’s squad in March 2025 but has seen limited playing time under Iraola. Rumours linking the English midfielder with Inter Milan have circulated, but Liverpool appear reluctant to let him leave. Al-Ahli have made a move for Juventus midfielder Khephren Thuram, a 25‑year‑old French player. Reports note that Liverpool, Manchester United and Galatasaray have also inquired about the situation. Juventus have not set a price, but initial discussions could start around €45‑50 million. The Arab club is seeking a replacement for Franck Kessié, who is expected to depart for free this window. Jones’s work rate and ability to pick out passes across the pitch have made him one of Liverpool’s most important players this season. Iraola’s pressing system, inherited from his Bournemouth tenure, should further highlight Jones’s strengths. Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch were described as “hardly pressing” under Slot, a contrast that may work in Jones’s favour. If any Liverpool player wishes to remain a first‑team regular, they will need to adapt quickly to the new system. As long as Jones continues to perform in his natural role, there is little reason he will not be among the first names on Iraola’s team sheet for the new season. A transfer to Inter Milan would only materialise if a deal can be reached.
