Anderlecht demands Grêmio pay €1 million for Amuzu transfer
RSC Anderlecht has warned Brazilian side Grêmio that the club still owes €1 million for the transfer of winger Francis Amuzu and that it may take the dispute to FIFA if payment is not made. The debt includes an initial €400,000 arrears and a further €600,000 tranche expected in the coming months.
Brazilian journalist Kaliel Dorneles reported that the total sum Grêmio owes Anderlecht for Amuzu's transfer is €1 million, not the €400,000 previously announced. He added that the club must also settle an additional €600,000 installment in the next months.
Grêmio paid €1.2 million to acquire Amuzu from Anderlecht in January 2025 after the Belgian side’s ten‑year, 251‑match tenure with the club. The winger left RSC Anderlecht to join the Porto Alegre club, which has twice won the Brazilian national championship.
Local media reported that Grêmio still owes a third of the transfer fee, €400,000, and that Anderlecht has sent a formal notice demanding payment. The Belgian club warned it will bring the case before FIFA if the outstanding amount is not settled.
Amuzu’s contract with Grêmio expires on 1 January 2027, after which he will become a free agent. Transfermarkt values his market price at €9 million, double the €4.5 million estimated before his departure from Brussels.
During two seasons with Grêmio, Amuzu featured in 64 matches, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists. He also collected the Campeonato Gaúcho title and appeared in Copa Sudamericana fixtures.
Having represented Belgium at U19 and U21 levels, Amuzu switched allegiance to Ghana and was called up by coach Carlos Queiroz in May. Grêmio’s refusal to release him prevented his inclusion in Ghana’s final World Cup squad.
