Bayern suspend Michael Olise after his violent gesture against Viking

Michael Olise, 24, will not be available for Bayern Munich's next Champions League clash against Arsenal, following his dismissal in the 3‑3 draw against Viking FK on Tuesday evening.

Course of the incident

During the second matchday of the group stage, the French international had already been cautioned for an anti‑player foul on Norwegian defender Henrik Heggheim. The opposing captain, Zlatko Tripic, then provoked Olise, who reacted by throwing the ball straight at the Norwegian's face.

The referee immediately brandished a second yellow card, resulting in the expulsion of Bayern's number 17. Max Eberl, the Bavarian sporting director, confirmed that the sanction was dealt with “internally” and that the case is now closed.

When asked about a possible fine, Eberl said that the financial details were not disclosed, but that the final decision had been made.

Olise, a former Crystal Palace player, will therefore miss the showdown against Arsenal, scheduled for next Wednesday at 9 p.m. at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern said it wants to “discuss calmly” with the player before imposing any disciplinary measures, before confirming the official suspension.
