Chelsea's £75m price tag on Malo Gusto sparks fan debate

Chelsea have set a £75 million asking price for 23‑year‑old right‑back Malo Gusto as the defender looks to leave Stamford Bridge, prompting a mix of fan reactions on whether the club should keep, sell or hold onto the player in the upcoming transfer window. Will argued that Chelsea should retain Gusto. He said the defender can provide good competition for Reece James in the starting XI and step in if James suffers another injury‑prone season. Ivan felt Gusto had checked out last season and that his mistakes, combined with his role as James’ backup, made a move inevitable. He described the first half of the Conference League final as a ‘car crash waiting to happen’ and said he would gladly accept the £75 million price. Mark declared he would sell Gusto in a heartbeat at that price, insisting the player never truly belonged at Chelsea. He added that many recent signings were brought in by ‘clueless owners’ and that the club needs to ‘rip it up and start again’. Stu dismissed the valuation, calling £75 million ‘wishful thinking at best, desperate at worst’ for a player who rarely starts and is generally awful when he does. He suggested the club should fire its accountants if this is how they plan to recoup revenue. Samantha opposed a sale, arguing that Marco Palestra is a true wing‑back suited to a back three but Chelsea still need a traditional right‑back. She highlighted Gusto’s Premier League experience, flexibility and defensive capability, noting that the team will sometimes line up with a back four and cannot rely on a 21‑year‑old unproven as the sole right‑back for an entire season.
