Etienne Camara to join Panathinaikos for €5 million transfer

Midfielder Etienne Camara will leave Sporting Charleroi for Greek giants Panathinaikos, with both clubs agreeing on a transfer fee of around five million euros and the player set to sign a four‑year contract. Camara, who logged 3,500 minutes this season with two goals and three assists, moves as the summer window opened yesterday.

Panathinaikos finished a disappointing fourth in the Greek championship, securing only a Conference League qualification. The club hopes the new signing will strengthen a midfield that fell short of domestic ambitions.

The Greek side has been courting Camara since January, initially offering four million euros. Negotiations in the final days raised the fee by one million, reaching the agreed five million.

Camara arrived in 2024 from Udinese and quickly became a key figure in Charleroi’s midfield. His 3,500 minutes of play this season underline his importance to the Belgian side.

With Camara entering the final year of his contract, Sporting Charleroi – known as the Zèbres – could no longer retain him and agreed to the transfer. The €5 million cheque will give the Belgian club financial resources for future signings.

The agreement was confirmed by Sudinfo, which reported the deal between the two clubs. Charleroi had initially hoped to keep the French midfielder as a cornerstone of their midfield before the transfer materialised.
