Fabrizio Romano denies Liverpool link for Darwin Núñez
Fabrizio Romano reported that Darwin Núñez will not return to Liverpool at this time. Núñez and Al-Hilal have mutually terminated his contract, making him a free agent.
Núñez left Liverpool last summer for Al-Hilal in a deal reported at €53 million. His spell in Saudi Arabia did not develop as expected, and the arrival of Karim Benzema reduced his playing chances. He was omitted from Al-Hilal’s Saudi Pro League squad for the remainder of the season.
New Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola favors a high‑pressing style that could suit Núñez’s energy. Liverpool face an attacking shortage with Hugo Ekitike sidelined by an Achilles injury. Alexander Isak remains the primary striker option, though his injury history is a concern.
Romano said a claim circulated by Uruguayan journalist Juan Pablo Romero, relayed by Martin Charquero, is not supported by sources close to Núñez. He stated that those near the player deny any ongoing talks with Liverpool.
The expectation remains that Núñez will find a new club as a free agent this summer. Liverpool have not progressed toward re‑signing him, but the situation could change as they assess squad depth.
