Farioli steers Porto to Portuguese Super Cup triumph

🇵🇹 By 4AllFootball ·

On Saturday, Francesco Farioli's FC Porto claimed the Portuguese Super Cup, edging Torreense 1-0 in the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira. The victory marked the first prize of the new season for the league champions.

Pablo Rosario started the match in the lineup, providing the initial spark for Porto's attacking intent.

The former Ajax coach Francesco Farioli's side dominated possession early, yet they remained alert as Torreense pressed, coming close to an opening goal through Dany Jean before Diogo Costa produced a crucial save.

The decisive goal arrived seven minutes before halftime when Victor Froholdt, a Danish midfielder, timed his run perfectly inside the penalty area and slotted the ball to make it 1-0.

Porto continued to control the second half, with André Silva threatening a second goal from a free‑kick, but Alverca goalkeeper Adriel kept his team in the game with a fine reflex.

Rosario completed the full 90 minutes but was cautioned with a yellow card in the final half hour, prompting a more cautious approach.

Porto's next fixture comes next Sunday when they face FC Alverca to kick off the new campaign.
