FC Barcelona signs Egyptian striker Hamza Abdelkarim until 2029

FC Barcelona have completed the permanent signing of Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim, exercising the purchase option in his loan from Al Ahly. The 22‑year‑old will be under contract until 30 June 2029, with a reported fee of €1.5 million in the summer window.

Abdelkarim featured for the Egyptian national side for 14 minutes against the Belgian team, known as the Diables rouges. That cameo formed part of his early senior international exposure.

The striker arrived in Catalonia during the last winter transfer window and initially joined Barcelona's reserve side, Barcelona Atlètic. He also featured for other youth categories within the club. In the Barcelona U19 team he recorded six goals in eleven appearances.

Barcelona triggered the purchase clause in his loan agreement with Al Ahly, securing the player on a contract that runs to 30 June 2029. The transfer fee is estimated at €1.5 million. By contrast, the club’s summer acquisition Anthony Gordon carries a €70 million price tag.

Abdelkarim’s fourth senior cap came against New Zealand, where he again played 14 minutes. Earlier caps were earned against Russia, Brazil and Belgium. His national team involvement has earned him the nickname “Egyptian Haaland.”

Coach Hansi Flick may give the young forward a chance during Barcelona’s pre‑season preparations. The club recently lost striker Robert Lewandowski, opening a potential opening in attack. Abdelkarim will therefore have an opportunity to demonstrate his long‑term value to the Blaugrana.
