FC Groningen adds keeper Rijk Janse and midfielder Clement

FC Groningen will reinforce its squad this week by signing goalkeeper Rijk Janse, the elder brother of former loanee Dies Janse, and by securing a contract with midfielder Pelle Clement. Both arrivals aim to bolster the Dutch club’s depth ahead of the upcoming season.

Rijk Janse spent the previous campaign as the third‑choice keeper at NEC. He made his Eredivisie debut in March when he replaced Jasper Cillessen after an injury during a match against SC Heerenveen. His signing is intended to solidify Groningen’s goalkeeper roster.

Etienne Vaessen appears set to become the first‑choice goalkeeper for the next season. Janse will compete with Lovro Štubljar for the role of second‑choice keeper. The club expects a clear hierarchy to emerge once formalities are completed.

Pelle Clement, a 30‑year‑old midfielder, played last season for Sparta Rotterdam before becoming a free agent. If he signs, he will be among the oldest players in Groningen’s squad. His experience is expected to add depth to the midfield.

The completion of both signings hinges on finalising administrative formalities. Once paperwork is signed, the club will confirm the contracts. Groningen aims to integrate the new arrivals promptly to prepare for the forthcoming campaign.
