Genesio plans four changes to surprise Besiktas

While OM left Rennes with a 1-0 defeat, Bruno Genesio announced four changes for the first Europa League match against Besiktas this Thursday at 9 p.m., promising an entirely new lineup. The Marseille coach wants to revive a team lacking results, after three consecutive league defeats.

As announced by the Marseille coach at the press conference, Bruno Genesio plans four changes in the starting eleven. L’Équipe indicates that the lineup will be reshuffled compared to the one that faced Rennes, where OM lost 1-0. This revision aims to bring more freshness before the first Europa League match.

Four expected starters

Derek Cornelius should regain a starting spot on the left side of defence, strengthening the central hub which will also be altered. Beside him, the Swiss Ulisses Garcia is tipped to start, offering the chance to prove himself in this area. These two choices constitute the first defensive adjustments announced.

In attack, Amine Harit will be repositioned in place of Angel Gomes, who will remain on the bench after a performance deemed disappointing at Rennes. Harit's shift to the left wing should energise the offensive play. Gomes, for his part, will not be among the starters.

On the right flank, Keyliane Abdallah should be in the starting lineup, the young Marseille player potentially becoming one of the surprises of this eleven against the Turks. His inclusion strengthens the width of the attack. Abdallah thus completes the quartet of changes announced by the coach.

A gamble to restart the season

OM has accumulated three consecutive league defeats, making the trip to Besiktas the first real chance to revive the European campaign. Bruno Genesio thus aims to inject fresh blood into a struggling team. A Twitter thread from @sebhfoot shared the probable lineup, confirming the starters of Cornelius, Ulisses Garcia, Harit and Abdallah.

By contrasting the defeat at Rennes with the surprise of the new eleven, the coach shows he is betting on change to reverse the trend. The clash against Besiktas will immediately test the effectiveness of these adjustments and could redefine the group's dynamics.
