Inter close to signing Atalanta wing-back Marco Palestra

Serie A side Inter Milan are poised to complete the signing of Atalanta wing‑back Marco Palestra next week, with the player expected to travel to Milan for a medical and a five‑year contract worth just under €3 million. The deal follows weeks of negotiations and interest from English clubs.

Inter's sporting director Beppe Marotta will travel to Rome today, where the election of a new federal president is scheduled for tomorrow. Serie A club president Luca Percassi and several other representatives will also be present in the city.

The proximity of the officials creates the possibility of an early contact between the Nerazzurri and Atalanta as soon as this evening at a dinner meeting. Such a meeting could accelerate the pending transfer discussions.

Formal negotiations are set to begin early next week, with Inter seeking to bridge the valuation gap with Atalanta. Directors Piero Ausilio and Cristiano Giuntoli are expected to return to the negotiating table.

A proposed inclusion of a percentage of the future resale value has been highlighted as a potential catalyst for reaching agreement. Both clubs appear to view the clause as a way to narrow the financial divide.

Marco Palestra is reportedly waiting for the phone to ring so he can travel to Milan for a medical examination. He is slated to sign a five‑year contract valued at just under €3 million, with no hitches anticipated.

The player and his entourage have actively steered the talks toward Inter, according to the reports. Earlier speculation linked him with a move to England, but he rejected approaches from Manchester City and Chelsea.

Get Italian Football News noted Palestra's keen interest in joining the Nerazzurri despite English interest. Corriere dello Sport added that the deal could be sealed next week.
