Ismael Saibari scores early as Morocco beat Scotland at World Cup

Morocco moved closer to the knockout phase with a 0-1 victory over Scotland at the World Cup. Ismael Saibari, set for a world-record €55 million transfer from PSV to Bayern Munich, struck after just 71 seconds to record the fastest goal of the tournament so far.

Saibari controlled a pass from Brahim Díaz before unleashing a powerful shot high into the top corner, leaving Scotland goalkeeper Zander Clark with no chance. The goal came within the first two minutes of play, breaking the previous record for the earliest World Cup strike.

Morocco dominated possession with 601 successful passes, the highest total in a World Cup match since 1966 their only clear chance came from Saibari’s early effort, which was enough to secure the win.

Scotland pushed hard in the final stages, forcing goalkeeper Yassine Bono into saves but failing to create a clear scoring opportunity. Late drama included a controversial penalty appeal turned down by the referee and VAR, with Scotland’s Aaron McTominay appearing to go down in the box.

The result leaves Morocco top of Group C with four points, ahead of Scotland on three and Brazil on one. Morocco face Haiti at 02:30 local time in their next match, while Brazil play Scotland later in the same round.

Bayern Munich are finalising the €55 million deal for Saibari, who has already completed his medical examination. The German club is expected to officially announce the transfer in the coming weeks.

For the Netherlands, Group C remains a key focus. Should the Oranje finish second in their group, they would face the group winner from this pool in the next round.
