Laporta’s jab at Real Madrid highlights Barça’s member‑owned model

🇪🇸
At the Camp Nou, newly inaugurated Barcelona president Joan Laporta used his inaugural address to draw a stark contrast between his club’s direction and the perceived uncertainty gripping Real Madrid, hinting at a rivalry that extends beyond the pitch today. Laporta praised the work being done under Hansi Flick, describing the coach’s influence as a positive force for Barcelona. “Elsewhere they’re very nervous and holding farcical press conferences; they don’t have a clear direction and are experiencing déjà vu,” Laporta said. He then highlighted Barcelona’s own outlook, noting that Hansi Flick leads a squad that inspires the city and that the team was assembled by Deco. This description underscored a more consistent path for the Catalan club. Laporta referenced Barcelona’s member‑owned ownership model, stating that it forces the club to be imaginative to compete against commercial enterprises. He added that Florentino Perez is reportedly considering selling a part of Real Madrid’s ownership to an outside investor. “Some aren’t, but they want to be.” Laporta’s remark was widely interpreted as a direct jab at Real Madrid. Florentino Perez has been critical of Barcelona over the Negreira case. In response, Laporta declared, “We feel strong to continue defending the club,” and added, “There are some who never rest, and in the face of attacks on Barça and our dignity, they will always find a strong president and board with leadership aimed at defending the institution against everything and everyone; that is our commitment.” Photographs of the inauguration were supplied by David Ramos. Catherine Ivill also provided images capturing the moment.
