Long‑term contract secures Mitrovic as Lierse chase promotion

🇧🇪

Lierse have completed the signing of 22‑year‑old Marko Mitrovic on a contract that runs until mid‑2028, a deal that gives the Belgian‑Serbian attacking midfielder a five‑year home at the Challenger Pro League side. The agreement, announced on the club’s website, signals Lierse’s intent to bolster its creative options ahead of the upcoming season.

Mitrovic is a product of Royal Antwerp FC’s youth system, having progressed through its ranks from 2013 to 2022 before moving abroad. He spent the last two seasons with Serbian side Jedinstvo Ub, where he captained the team and featured in the Serbian top division.

During the most recent campaign, Jedinstvo Ub reached the semi‑final of the Serbian Cup, only to be narrowly eliminated by Red Star Belgrade. Mitrovic appeared in 24 matches, contributing two goals and one assist.

After a trial period, Lierse’s sporting staff were convinced, and the midfielder signed permanently under the guidance of manager Arno Van den Abbeel. The club announced the signing via a press release on its official website.

Transfermarkt currently values Mitrovic at approximately €450,000, a figure that may underestimate his potential according to club officials. His dual Serbian‑Belgian nationality adds flexibility for squad registration.

Lierse face the prospect of several departures this summer, making the acquisition of Mitrovic a strategic move to replenish creative talent. The club hopes his addition will help push the team toward the top of the Challenger Pro League and eventually secure promotion to the Jupiler Pro League.

The swift return of a young Antwerp graduate highlights the growing trend of Belgian clubs securing promising talent before market values fully reflect their abilities. Such signings underline the competitive nature of the transfer market in the region.
