LosC flop leaves France for Turkey, future uncertain

On Saturday evening, LOSC announced the departure of its Guinean striker Mohamed Bayo, 28, to Turkish club Samsunspor, while the European transfer window remains open until Friday 4 September, and the Lille club indicated that the transfer was estimated at €1.5 million.

The European market still open

The transfer window in Europe is not completely closed. Turkey could still recruit until Friday 4 September, thus extending the registration window for Turkish clubs.

LOSC announced on Saturday that Mohamed Bayo, 28, had signed for Samsunspor. The striker, who has 29 caps and 8 goals for Guinea, joins the Turkish club.

On the club's X account, supporters read “Thank you Momo”. The message pays tribute to Bayo, nicknamed Momo, for his spell at Lille.

L’Equipe estimates the deal at €1.5 million. This figure contrasts with the €14 million paid by LOSC in 2022 to recruit him from Clermont Foot, and the depreciation of his performance since his arrival.

The hopes raised by the striker born in Clermont-Ferrand have remained unchanged; the club has not seen the expected progression.

In 47 matches across all competitions between 2022 and 2024, Bayo scored seven goals for LOSC. Before his departure, he had been consecutively loaned to Le Havre, to Royal Antwerp, then to Gaziantep FK.

Bayo's career before Turkey

At Le Havre, he played 23 matches and scored five goals in the 2023‑2024 season. At Royal Antwerp, he featured in 17 matches, finding the net once in 2024‑2025. In Turkey, with Gaziantep FK, he totaled 32 matches and 15 goals between 2025 and 2026.

The club believes the player will not be out of his element in Turkey, highlighting his experience in several European leagues.
