Marc Overmars eyes Calvin Stengs' return as Antwerp chase playmaker

🇧🇪
Royal Antwerp FC, spurred by sporting director Marc Overmars, are reportedly eyeing the return of Dutch midfielder Calvin Stengs as the summer transfer window approaches. The 27‑year‑old, whose current market value sits at €4.5 million, remains under contract with Feyenoord until June 2027. Antwerp first secured Stengs on a season‑long loan from OGC Nice for the 2022‑23 campaign, where he delivered a solid performance at De Bosuil for The Great Old. After the loan, the Dutchman was transferred to Feyenoord for a fee of €6 million. Stengs struggled to cement a place at Feyenoord, prompting a loan move to Italian side Pisa for the most recent season. Pisa attached a purchase option estimated at around €5 million, a clause that is expected to remain unexercised. Transfermarkt now values Stengs at €4.5 million, a drop from his peak valuation of €15 million while at OGC Nice. The decline reflects his limited impact during the brief spell in Italy. With his contract in Rotterdam running to June 2027, Feyenoord must decide whether to sell him this summer or negotiate a new deal to avoid a free departure next year. The club’s options are constrained by the player’s remaining contract length. According to , several clubs have shown interest in Stengs, and rumors place Royal Antwerp FC among them. Marc Overmars is said to be driving the push to bring the playmaker back to the Belgian side. A return to Antwerp would offer Stengs familiar surroundings after a season in Italy that yielded just four appearances. The move could provide the player with more regular playing time and a chance to revive his form.
