Legal consequences for the goalkeeper
"I cannot comment on the legal consequences in Spain," says Mathieu Baert. "But in Belgium this could end up in court. Sport is not above the law and the law does not end at the gate of a football stadium," he adds. "This was most likely not a deliberate action by the goalkeeper," Baert states.
"Such a procedure can be civil or criminal," says the sports lawyer. "In the latter case it must be examined whether there is an unintentional killing," he explains. "In such a case the goalkeeper risks a prison sentence," Baert concludes.
