Nick Verschuren joins Sparta for €800,000, four‑year deal

Nick Verschuren is set to leave Ajax for Sparta Rotterdam, with the 21‑year‑old defender poised to sign a four‑year contract in Rotterdam and Sparta transferring €800,000, a sum that could rise to €1 million, in the upcoming season, to the Dutch giants.

Ajax watcher Mike Verweij Sparta has already cleared Verschuren medically. The 21‑year‑old defender can therefore complete his move without delay.

Verschuren entered the transfer with two seasons left on his Ajax contract. The remaining term had originally bound him to the Amsterdam club for another two years.

Last season Ajax loaned the defender to FC Volendam. After the loan, he played for Het Andere Oranje, which fell to the Keuken Kampioen Divisie through the play‑offs.

Verweij adds that Ajax negotiated a future sell‑on clause as part of the deal. The clause guarantees the Dutch side a percentage of any subsequent transfer fee.

FC Groningen also monitored Verschuren during the window. The club, however, did not secure the player's signature.

Sparta reinforced its squad this week by signing Bas Kuipers. The experienced left‑back arrived from FC Twente on a permanent deal.
