Pavard out of play after Inter's defeat in Bruges

Inter Milan's defeat to Bruges (3-4) on Wednesday evening at the Meazza, during the second matchday of the Champions League, led to several absences. The French defender Benjamin Pavard, who remained on the bench, was anyway not fit and confirmed a groin injury that forces him to two weeks of rest.

Immediate consequences

The author of a brace, captain Lautaro Martinez, also suffered a hamstring injury, which could keep him out for several weeks. These two absences add to the unavailability of John Stones, already sidelined, and affect Inter's defensive line.

Pavard's situation

Benjamin Pavard, 30-year-old French international, was enjoying a good start to the season in Serie A, benefiting from rotations on the right side of the defence. Although he is not an undisputed starter, he has delivered very good performances thanks to the absences of his teammates.

After a difficult season at Olympique de Marseille, Pavard missed the 2026 World Cup, but remains a credible option for Les Bleus, the current full‑backs of Zinedine Zidane not being any more demanding than him.

Because of his injury, Pavard, along with Lautaro Martinez and probably John Stones, will miss the Champions League match against Shakhtar scheduled for next Wednesday.

It remains to be seen whether they will be back for the clash against Feyenoord on November 3, two days before the French coach's next selection.
