PSV’s £25m gamble collapses over Lamare Bogarde’s Aston Villa valuation

🇳🇱

PSV Eindhoven have ended their pursuit of Aston Villa defender Lamare Bogarde after the 22-year-old’s valuation proved prohibitive. The Eredivisie club confirmed interest this summer but were unable to meet the £25 million asking price set by Villa.

Bogarde, born in Rotterdam, completed his youth development at Feyenoord before joining Aston Villa in the summer of 2020. His progression under manager Unai Emery culminated in 44 first-team appearances last season, predominantly as a substitute. The right-back’s emergence has drawn attention from multiple clubs, including Brighton & Hove Albion and Sunderland, both of whom are now actively pursuing the player.

PSV viewed Bogarde as an ‘ideal player’ to bolster their squad, long-term solution at right-back. However, the financial barrier presented by Villa’s valuation proved insurmountable.

‘With that kind of money, PSV simply cannot — and will not — compete,’ a source told . Bogarde remains contracted to Aston Villa until at least the summer of 2028, effectively ruling out any domestic transfer before then. Brighton and Sunderland are now considered the most likely destinations.

The collapse of the deal underscores the challenges faced by Eredivisie clubs in competing financially with Premier League sides for young talent.
