Real Madrid demands LaLiga boss's exit after Nazi comparison

In an official statement dated October 16, 2026, Real Madrid demanded the immediate resignation of LaLiga boss Javier Tebas after he compared the club to the propaganda methods of the National Socialist regime. The club described the remarks as "deeply offensive, morally reprehensible and institutionally inappropriate".

Comparison with National Socialist Propaganda

The dispute began when Tebas, on the social media platform X, accused the in-house channel Real Madrid TV and its protagonists of using methods from National Socialism. In his response he cited Goebbels techniques such as systematic repetition, construction of an enemy image, and subordinating facts to the narrative.

Consequences for Vinicius Junior

The trigger was the four‑match suspension for Vinicius Junior, imposed after an incident during the 1‑0 victory over Villarreal. The Brazilian had, in the build‑up to his disallowed goal, pulled an opponent by the hair, was sent off with a red card and then escorted away by Antonio Rüdiger. In addition, he is alleged to have pushed a LaLiga staff member while heading to the dressing room.

Vinicius Junior subsequently received two matches for the assault and another two matches for his conduct after the red card. He responded with a photo montage on Instagram, showing eight scenes in which, in his view, opponents should be warned or sent off.

Reactions from José Mourinho

Coach José Mourinho sensed a conspiracy against Real Madrid and criticised the short‑notice announcement of the four‑match suspension, which came only two hours before the Champions League match against AS Roma. He asked whether it was normal for a player to learn of a suspension so shortly before a match.

Mourinho called the approach "shameless" and likened it to "killing a player two hours before a match". He also recalled earlier allegations that Atlético Madrid had supposedly been due two dismissals in a derby match.

Real Madrid's Official Demand

In its statement Real Madrid said that it was "absolutely intolerable and extraordinarily serious" for someone in the most responsible positions of Spanish football to draw a comparison with the propaganda mechanisms of the Nazi regime in order to discredit the club, its management and the television channel. Despite clarifying that Tebas was not referring to Nazi ideology, the remark remains unacceptable for the club.

The club therefore demands the immediate removal of Javier Tebas as president of LaLiga and vice‑president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
