Romano Postema moves to Viking FK after Groningen deal

Twenty-four‑year‑old striker Romano Postema has completed a move from FC Groningen to Norwegian champions Viking FK, after technical director Erik Nevland secured an agreement with the Dutch club, RTV Noord reported. Postema, who scored 24 goals for FC Emmen last season, ends his spell at the club where he rose through the youth ranks.

Technical director Erik Nevland of Viking FK confirmed that an agreement had been reached with FC Groningen concerning the transfer of 24‑year‑old striker Romano Postema. The deal moves the Dutch forward from the club known as the Trots van het Noorden to Norway's league champions.

Len Koeman, Postema’s agent, explained earlier this month to the regional broadcaster that the player “wanted very much to go to Viking and the Norwegians were also willing to go for him early. Only FC Groningen suddenly asked for more than before,” he said. Koeman’s comments highlighted the financial hurdle that initially stalled the move.

RTV Noord reported that both Postema and FC Groningen have now sealed the agreement with Viking, bringing an end to the striker’s tenure at the Dutch side. Postema had progressed through FC Groningen’s youth academy before making his senior debut.

In the season when FC Groningen earned promotion to the Eredivisie, Postema finished as top scorer with eighteen goals. During the following campaign he was loaned to FC Emmen, where he netted twenty‑four goals to become the top scorer of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie.

Postema later complained that contact with FC Groningen had been minimal during his loan spell, feeling the club preferred to “lose him rather than keep him.” Interest had previously come from clubs in Italy, Germany and Belgium, but the recent agreement puts an end to the stalled negotiations between Postema and FC Groningen.

With Viking FK, Postema is set to feature in the Champions League qualifying rounds. The Norwegian champions expect the striker to add firepower to their European campaign.
