SC Cambuur sacks assistant Edwin de Graaf over vision clash

SC Cambuur announced on Thursday that assistant coach Edwin de Graaf, 46, has had his contract terminated with immediate effect after the club said future visions and ambitions no longer aligned. The decision follows internal disagreements over the appointment of new head coach Johan Plat, whom technical manager Lars Lambooij preferred.

De Graaf previously played for Feyenoord and ADO Den Haag during his playing career. He joined SC Cambuur's coaching staff last season as one of two assistants to Henk de Jong.

SC Cambuur finished second in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie last season. The club secured promotion back to the top tier for the upcoming campaign.

Omroep Frysland reported that De Graaf expressed disappointment over the appointment of Johan Plat as head coach. He had reportedly received an internal promise to succeed Henk de Jong when the latter left.

Technical manager Lars Lambooij chose Johan Plat over De Graaf for the head‑coach role, according to the Frisian media outlet. The decision strained relations within the coaching staff, leading to De Graaf's departure.

De Graaf's ongoing contract was dissolved with immediate effect, as stated by SC Cambuur. The club communicated the termination through its official channels.
