Sunderland target Monaco striker Folarin Balogun
Sunderland are in a race to sign Monaco striker Folarin Balogun, with Aston Villa, Everton, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest also interested, according to journalist Mark Brus. Balogun, the 24‑year‑old United States forward, logged 19 goals and five assists in 43 appearances for Monaco last season, and his contract runs until the summer of 2028.
The Black Cats must outbid the English clubs to secure the United States international. Sunderland’s pursuit underscores their ambition to strengthen the attack ahead of the next Premier League season.
Balogun is currently regarded as one of Ligue 1’s most talented forwards. His 19 goals and five assists across all competitions placed him among the league’s top contributors.
Balogun’s contract with Monaco expires in the summer of 2028. Sunderland would need to present a substantial offer to persuade the forward to join during the off‑season.
Balogun excels at finding space, delivering decisive passes and dribbling effectively. Such attributes would add firepower to Regis Le Bris’ Sunderland side.
At 24, Balogun still has his prime years ahead. His arrival could help Sunderland aim for a top‑half finish in the Premier League.
Balogun featured for the United States in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group D match against Australia in Seattle. Photographer Jamie Squire captured the action, highlighting the forward’s growing international profile.
