Valter Sedin’s equaliser fuels Canada’s bid at Concacaf U20

By 4AllFootball ·

Valter Sedin dribbled past several Jamaican defenders before firing a deflected shot early in the second half, tying the match at 1‑1. It marked his first competitive goal for Canada in international soccer. The action unfolded on Saturday in Puebla, Mexico, during the Concacaf U‑20 Championship.

Earlier on Saturday, Marius Aiyenero had put Canada ahead, scoring the other Canadian goal. The encounter finished as a 2‑2 draw after both sides added further strikes. The result secured Canada’s first‑place finish in Group C.

Canada completed the group stage with one win and two draws, a record that placed them atop Group C. Their standing guarantees a spot in the quarter‑finals. The group‑top status also reflects their unbeaten run in the tournament so far.

The draw sets up a quarter‑final rematch between the two squads on Wednesday. The four quarter‑final winners will earn berths at the 2027 FIFA U‑20 World Cup. Moreover, the tournament champion will qualify for the 2028 Olympics and the 2027 Pan American Games.

Valter Sedin is the son of Vancouver Canucks legend Henrik Sedin. He honed his abilities in the Vancouver Whitecaps system before joining Swedish club Hammarby last year. His breakthrough goal highlights the progression from youth development to the international stage.
