Van Hanegem says Feyenoord missed Crysencio Summerville

Former Dutch midfielder Willem van Hanegem criticised Feyenoord for allowing 24‑year‑old winger Crysencio Summerville to leave, calling him a “very good player”. Van Hanegem made the comments after Summerville’s impressive displays for the Netherlands at the international World Cup. Van Hanegem expressed his admiration for Summerville on the television programme VP’s Willem & Wessel. The former Feyenoord star highlighted the youngster’s talent during the broadcast. Summerville progressed through Feyenoord’s youth academy but never secured a regular place in the senior squad. Despite his development at the club, he was released without a serious first‑team opportunity. Van Hanegem said, “He has been at our club and then we just let players like that go. How can that be? Maybe they don’t have good eyes. He is really a very good player,” reflecting his frustration. He referred to himself as “the Kromme”, a nickname he has carried throughout his career. The 24‑year‑old winger’s performances for Oranje at the World Cup have drawn praise from Dutch football circles. His display on the global stage contrasts with the limited opportunities he received at Feyenoord. The latest episode of VP’s Willem & Wessel also covered topics such as coach Ronald Koeman, forward Takefusa Ueda, and Portugal’s campaign. Listeners are invited to follow the programme for further analysis of Dutch football and international developments.
