€15 million fee, now trialist: Malacia seeks start at Cincinnati
Tyrell Malacia, the 27‑year‑old Dutch left‑back, was signed in 2022 for around fifteen million euros from Feyenoord to Manchester United, but has been without a club since his contract expired at the end of June and is now joining FC Cincinnati as a trialist.
Trial at FC Cincinnati
The free‑transfer Dutchman is currently training with FC Cincinnati and hopes to revive his career there. He has not yet signed a contract and is on trial. The club has indicated that he is being used as a trialist while he looks for a new employer.
American journalist Laura Pfahler shared footage of the 27‑year‑old left‑back on the training pitch. The recordings show Malacia giving his all during the drills. Pfahler emphasized that the player appears motivated.
Malacia has been without a club since this summer, after his contract with Manchester United expired at the end of June and was not renewed. After four years at Old Trafford, his spell with the Red Devils came to an end. His departure followed an injury‑prone period.
The nine‑time Dutch international secured a transfer in 2022 for roughly fifteen million euros from Feyenoord to Manchester United. In his first season he made 39 official appearances for the club. Shortly thereafter a serious knee injury sidelined him, keeping him out for about five hundred days.
Before his move to England, Malacia was regarded as one of the biggest Dutch talents at left‑back. At Feyenoord he played 136 official matches and was a regular. His development earned him nine caps for the Dutch national team.
MLS remains an attractive destination for European players seeking a second chance. For clubs like Cincinnati this provides an opportunity to bring in Premier League experience.
