Done: Malacia chooses FC Cincinnati after months without a club
Tyrell Malacia (27), the Dutchman, has signed a new contract with FC Cincinnati, a Major League Soccer‑club, which runs until mid‑2027 with an option to extend, after months without a club and a free transfer, and gives him the chance to play at the top level again.
Contract and terms
FC Cincinnati confirmed through its official channels the arrival of the 27‑year‑old Dutchman. It had already been reported that the defender was on trial with the club.
At the start of the transfer summer it was decided to terminate Malacia's contract with Manchester United, making him a free agent. Since then he remained without a club until his unexpected appearance in the United States.
Background and previous clubs
"We are very pleased that we can add a player with Tyrell's experience to our team," said general manager Chris Albright. "He has played at the highest level and understands the demands that are placed on that level."
Malacia came through the youth academy of Feyenoord and made 137 appearances for the first team, in which he scored four goals and provided ten assists. Manchester United paid fifteen million euros for his signature, but the marriage turned out to be unhappy.

During the 2024/2025 season PSV Eindhoven loaned the Dutchman from Manchester United and helped the club to the Eredivisie title. The partnership gave him valuable playing time after an injury‑prone period at United.
According to a second report Malacia arrives in Cincinnati on a free transfer, with a contract that runs until June next year and an option for the 2027‑28 season. He made fifty appearances for United, in which he missed a lot of time due to injury, after he moved in 2022 from Feyenoord to the 20‑time champion of England.
